It Will Probably Change Your Life

I’m Matt Abdoney. I’ve been home roasting my own coffee beans for over half a decade.

Freshly roasted, freshly ground specialty coffee is truly a magical beverage. 

If you haven’t already discovered this, it will probably change your life when you do, as it changed mine.

I was born in 1979, and my brother, Joey, in 1989. We grew up here in Tampa, Florida. Yet, Abdoney Brothers Coffee is not named for us, but for my boys; Wyatt, born here in Tampa in 2010, and his brother, Nolan, in 2014.

My father, Kamell, was the youngest of four brothers. Kamell was an independent small business owner in Tampa for about 30 years. I worked for him my entire childhood and adolescence; after school, on weekends, whenever he needed the extra assistance.  As a middle- and- high schooler, I can’t honestly admit that I much enjoyed counting Dad’s warehouse inventory and filing invoices, or running deliveries, answering phones, processing accounts receivable and payables, etc.

Yet, now as an adult, I wholeheartedly appreciate all of the experience I gained, and the priceless time I shared being with my father. 

This is why I started Abdoney Brothers Coffee, for my two boys, and ultimately, for me. Abdoney Brothers Coffee is our family journey.  Wyatt, Nolan and I are taking my longtime passion for specialty, hand selected coffee and undertaking the adventure of constructing a family business together.

I am selecting distinct, specialty green coffee beans from around the world, based on their farm or region’s explicit terroir and flavor profiles. I’ll develop those characteristics using our small, custom-built family coffee roaster. Our goal – to hone the notable artisan craft of coffee roasting.

Wyatt and Nolan will be working alongside and hands-on, learning the tropical coffee region’s geography with me. They are in charge of weighing, packaging, labeling, stamping and local bicycle delivery of our amazing fresh roast-to-order coffee beans. In a few more years, they may take over the roasting, bookkeeping and accounting.

Any monetary dispersants from Abdoney Brother’s Coffee LLC will be applied to Wyatt & Nolan’s 529 college savings plans.

I must also mention my wonderful wife, Andrea. Andrea grew up in Clearwater and Tarpon Springs. She makes great sandwiches and keeps us from making reckless decisions!
